About Us
The Friends of Great Lakes Library Service Inc. (FOGLLS) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to
supporting and achieving an excellent library service.
FOGLLS was formed in March 1997 and incorporated in 1999. Our intention is to provide
community-based support for the Library and promote the extension of library services in the Great
Lakes region. Dr Romney Newman is Patron and poet Les Murray AO, is Honorary Literary Patron.
FOGLLS members initiate functions themselves as well as assisting in any way they can with functions
organised by library staff. They help with such things as planning and publicity, as well as with
catering, welcoming guests, etc.
Mandate:
- To advocate on behalf of the Library and to make sure that its value to the community is
appreciated by those responsible for its funding. We believe libraries enrich lives and empower
people through relevant, accessible, high quality library services.
- To raise funds to enhance the existing library service and to win support for the building of
a new Library able to cater for the growing population.
- To ensure the library becomes the Community Hub which strengthens individuals, families and
communities by connecting them to people and to relevant information, collections, programs and
resources.
- To promote equitable access to library services to meet the needs of diverse communities.
